Golden Guitar winner Matt Scullion is one of the most respected Singer/Songwriters to come out of Australia in recent years. Having his songs recorded by the likes of- Cold Chisel, Lee and Tania Kernaghan, Drew McAlister, Adam Harvey, Sara Storer, Amber Lawrence and Travis Collins to name but a few- 17 of those going to number 1.
2018 has been a great year for Matt so far with the release of his long awaited 2nd album “I’m Just A Song” and a recent Golden Guitar win at the Tamworth Country Music awards where he took home the gong for “Song Of The Year”. A song he wrote with Travis Collins and Amber Lawrence. “Our Backyard” spent months at the top of the charts and won Travis and Amber a total of six awards all up.
Matt originally from Milton/Ulladulla on the NSW South Coast has spent most of his life on the road as a musician playing one night stands. From Darlinghurst to Darwin and Newcastle to Nashville he has certainly clocked up a few frequent fliers. In fact prior to moving to Newcastle two years ago Matt was living out his Songwriter dreams in Nashville Tennessee, a place he regularly visits and draws inspiration from.
A recent signing to Social Family Records has seen Matt release two singles in the last 6 months off his new 13 track album. “Outta My Own Way” a melancholy, soul searching tune, while Favorite Distraction is an up beat look at the funny side of a relationship. Apart from the “Matt Scullion Band” touring regularly, Matt also runs a monthly Songwriter show “The Scullion Sessions” at the Stag in May-field. The show has included artists such as Adam Eckersly, Katherine Britt, Adam Harvey and Travis Collins to name a few and is fast becoming a staple with music lovers in Newcastle.
Matt also has a tour planned for mid 2018 called “The Life In A Song Tour” featuring Luke O’shea and Lynn Bowtell.
